Northside Artlets
We were honored to donate our time and expertise to the Artlet project in Spartanburg’s Northside neighborhood. The Artlets are defined as shared public spaces, designed for impromptu creativity and connection with the aim of embedding more cultural activities into daily ritual. Working on two of four Artlets, we created murals from short poems written by Northside local Debby Moore. In addition to Debby’s words, the pieces also included salvaged material from old homes in the neighborhood and imagery derived from brainstorming sessions with residents. Each piece spans a wall that is roughly 10 x 10 feet, and was executed on primed Hardie Board panels. The backside of each panel is coated with chalkboard paint to encourage those using the spaces to interact with the piece.
